Community Outreach

Overview: At our community outreach events, we typically have our trash sorting game as a bean bag toss, alongside an arts and craft station with some rock painting and possibly another activity. The purpose is to bring awareness to environmental education while also making it fun for the kids. While the kids are playing, we try to talk to the parents/adults about what One Green Step's mission is and how they can take one green step.

Goal: With these events, we hope to educate the "next generation" around the environment from how to sort their trash to how to be sustainable. And maybe, inspire them to be as passionate as we are about helping the environment.

Why Kids?: Kids are still open-minded to learn new ideas and don't immediately dismiss us. It is also a time where the parents are still involved, and they are often open to learning alongside their kids.

Stories & Crafts (special)

Erin Dealey, a beloved children's author, came in and read her book, Dear Earth...from your friends in Room 5, which is an inspiring book that celebrates children's ability to connect and help the planet.

We set up a table to do some eco-friendly crafts while teaching kids about the environment, and how they can help. Along with fundraising for our native plants for our xeriscaping project.
